Teaching Statement

I am, first and foremost, a perpetual student, someone who actively seeks out new methods of presenting information and someone who enjoys my own scholarship. I see every experience, both inside and outside the classroom, as a learning opportunity.

I want my students to learn, I want them to be invested in their projects, and I want them to be successful. My teaching methods are constantly evolving to better guide my students and to help them see their work as real and relevant.

Having taught at the high school, community college, and university levels for over 17 years, I have extensive experience working with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. While my degrees are in English (BA), Multicultural Literature (MA), and Poetry (MFA), I also have experience as a working artist in visual and hybrid arts, as a director in a local theater, and as an actor and singer on the stage.
